From Fabric to Fit: How LAMEDA Designs Better Cycling Jerseys

LAMEDA Basic Cycling Jerseys

A high-quality cycling jersey should do more than look professional. It should remain breathable as riding intensity increases, move naturally with the body, and keep the rider comfortable from the first kilometer to the last.

This philosophy shaped the development of LAMEDA’s Women’s Basic Cycling Jersey and Men’s Basic Cycling Jersey.

Rather than relying on one universal pattern, LAMEDA focuses on how cyclists actually move on the bike—from fabric performance and stretch to body proportions and riding posture.

There are three key areas behind the design:

Fabric. Fit. 3D Tailoring.

Designed Around Real Riding Needs

Every design decision—from fabric selection and tailoring to color performance—is made with the rider’s actual experience in mind.

Key features include:

  • 140 g/m² ripple-textured performance fabric
  • 85% polyester and 15% elastane
  • Colorfastness rating of 4–5
  • Separate men’s and women’s fit structures
  • 3D ergonomic tailoring designed around the riding position

Individually, each feature may seem like a small detail. Together, they determine how naturally a cycling jersey performs once the rider gets on the bike.

PART 1 | Fabric: Breathability Starts Before the First Seam

LAMEDA ripple-textured breathable cycling jersey fabric
140 g/m² Ripple Texture · Breathability · Flexible Performance

Performance begins before the first seam is created.

LAMEDA selected a lightweight 140 g/m² ripple-textured performance fabric for the Women’s Basic Cycling Jersey and Men’s Basic Cycling Jersey.

The fine wave-like surface creates a three-dimensional texture that helps form small air channels across the fabric.

As riding intensity increases, these channels allow air to circulate more freely while helping heat and moisture move away from the body.

The result is a lighter, more breathable wearing experience during active rides.

Supportive Stretch Without Restriction

The fabric combines 85% polyester with 15% elastane.

Polyester helps provide durability and structural stability, while elastane gives the jersey the flexibility required for reaching forward, turning, climbing, and maintaining a cycling position.

A cycling jersey should fit closely enough to stay stable, but it should never make the rider feel restricted.

The controlled elasticity of the fabric allows it to follow movement around the waist and upper body while maintaining a clean silhouette.

Instead of excessive compression, the goal is:

supportive stretch that moves naturally with the rider.

Color Designed for Repeated Rides

Cycling apparel is worn, washed, dried, and worn again.

That makes color durability an important part of fabric performance.

With a colorfastness rating of 4–5, the fabric is designed to help preserve its original appearance through regular wear and repeated washing.

The goal is simple:

The color you choose should continue to look bright and consistent ride after ride.

PART 2 | Fit: One Design Concept, Two Purpose-Built Fits

Men’s and women’s cycling jerseys should not differ by color alone.

Body proportions influence where fabric needs to stretch, how the shoulders are supported, how the waist should follow the body, and how the jersey settles when the rider leans forward.

For this reason, LAMEDA developed separate pattern structures for the Women’s Basic Cycling Jersey and Men’s Basic Cycling Jersey.

Key proportions are refined to create a more natural relationship between the garment and the body while riding.

Women’s Basic Cycling Jersey: Defined by Curved Lines

The Women’s Basic Cycling Jersey places greater emphasis on the waist and overall body contour.

Curved seam lines follow the natural shape of the body, while the shaped waist helps create a clean and balanced silhouette without relying on excessive compression.

This allows the jersey to remain close to the body while still maintaining comfort and freedom of movement.

Men’s Basic Cycling Jersey: Structured Shoulder Support

The Men’s Basic Cycling Jersey places greater emphasis on the shoulder and upper-body structure.

A Y-shaped tension design helps distribute the fabric more naturally across the shoulders and upper back.

When the rider leans forward and reaches toward the handlebars, the structure helps the jersey remain smooth and stable instead of creating unnecessary pulling or folds.

The purpose of developing separate fits is not simply to exaggerate physical differences.

It is to reduce the compromises that occur when one basic pattern is expected to fit every rider.

More precise proportions can help reduce:

  • Excess fabric bunching
  • Unnecessary pulling
  • Waist instability
  • Shoulder restriction
  • Discomfort in the riding position

PART 3 | 3D Tailoring: Designed Around the Riding Position

A jersey may look perfectly fitted while standing upright and still feel uncomfortable once you get on the bike.

That is because the body changes significantly in the cycling position.

The torso leans forward.

The shoulders rotate.

The arms extend toward the handlebars.

The waist flexes.

And these movements continuously change how the jersey interacts with the body.

LAMEDA’s 3D ergonomic tailoring approaches the rider as a moving structure rather than a static mannequin.

Pattern lines are positioned to follow major muscle groups and accommodate joint movement, while areas exposed to greater dynamic tension are carefully refined to reduce unnecessary pulling and restriction.

The goal is not to force the body to adapt to the garment.

The garment should adapt naturally to the body in motion.

Why Millimeters Matter

During a quick fitting, a small adjustment to a seam or pattern line may seem insignificant.

Over a longer ride, however, even a few millimeters can influence shoulder comfort, waist stability, sleeve positioning, and how smoothly the fabric sits against the body.

These differences become more noticeable as time in the saddle increases.

In cycling apparel, comfort is rarely created by one dramatic feature.

More often, it is the result of many precise design decisions working quietly together.

Designed to Disappear into the Ride

The best cycling jersey is not necessarily the one that constantly reminds you how technical it is.

It is the one that allows you to breathe, reach, turn, climb, descend, and pedal without distraction.

LAMEDA’s Women’s Basic Cycling Jersey and Men’s Basic Cycling Jersey bring together:

  • 140 g/m² ripple-textured breathable fabric
  • 85% polyester and 15% elastane
  • Supportive stretch and shape recovery
  • Colorfastness rated at 4–5
  • Purpose-built men’s and women’s fits
  • Movement-led 3D ergonomic tailoring

Each element serves the same purpose:

to make the jersey feel more natural once the ride begins.

Because good cycling apparel should not constantly demand your attention.

It should quietly support your movement, manage heat and moisture, and stay where it belongs.

So you can spend less time thinking about your jersey—

and more time thinking about the road ahead.

Listen to the rider first, then design every detail around the ride.
